Ancestors is a collection of vibrant acrylic-on-canvas artworks depicting joyful connections to ancestors—how they appear to me through my work, how they want to be depicted, and what expressions they are emoting.

My ancestors speak to me through music, scent, and colour. Ancestors can also be future generations who have come back into the family tree. The youth to follow also offer inspiration to the present.

The diagonal patterns and chosen colours set a mood. My ancestors want to be adorned, to be seen in ease, comfort, and contentment—with the past, with endings, and with what they left behind. They are grateful for their time on Earth and did what they needed to do—whether planting the seed, watering the sprout, or weeding out the dead leaves. All are part of pruning, caring for, and growing the bloodline.
